What Are My Responsibilites?
Pick up your WIC checks on time. If you cannot keep your appointment,
call your local WIC office for a new appointment.
Spend your checks only at stores that have been approved to accept
WIC checks. Your local WIC office has a list of these stores.
Keep your WIC checks in a safe place so that they do not get lost
or stolen. Lost or stolen checks cannot be replaced. Call your
local WIC office immediately if your checks are lost or stolen.
Use your checks within the dates printed on the checks. Do not
change the dates or the amounts or types of foods listed on your
WIC checks. You can be suspended from the program for altering
your checks.
Keep your WIC ID card in a safe place and take it with you whenever
you go to the WIC office and grocery store. It is proof that you
are on the WIC program. If someone else is picking up your checks
or buying your WIC foods for you, he/she must have your WIC ID
card also. This person's name must also be on your ID card.
Buy only the foods that are listed on your WIC checks. Do not
try to buy foods that are not allowed with your WIC checks.
The foods you buy with your WIC checks should be eaten only by
the person whose name is on the checks. Tell the WIC staff if
your child is no longer in your home.
Do not sell your WIC checks or the foods you buy with your WIC
checks. Do not try to exchange the foods you buy with your WIC
checks for money. You can be suspended for selling WIC foods or
trying to get a cash refund for WIC foods from the store.
Be courteous to store employees and WIC staff members. You can
be suspended for using abusive or threatening language.
Make sure that you are not enrolled in two different WIC clinics
at the same time. If you are, you will be dropped from one clinic,
and you may be suspended from the other.
Report any rude or unlawful treatment you receive at the grocery
store to your local WIC office. You do not have to give your name.
