Health Department (HCHD) experience fulfills the public’s

Myths and Realities
Myth
Health Department Services are only for the poor.
Reality
Hillsborough County Health Department services are
available to all residents of Hillsborough County regardless of
socio-economic status. Each year, services ranging from birth certificates
and overseas travel immunizations to preventative health care and
environmental health services are provided.
Myth
Services are only provided in the clinic setting.
Reality
Hillsborough County Health Department delivers services throughout
the county. Health fairs, preventative health services, and field
visits are provided as needed.
Myth
Health Department Services are free.
Reality
While some of our services are provided free of charge, many require
a fee.
Myth
The Hillsborough County Health Department is a county agency.
Reality
The Hillsborough County Health Department is a state agency operating
under the jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Health in
partnership with county government through Florida Statute 154.
