The STD clinic offers low cost ($30.00), confidential, same day service to the public. There is a sliding scale fee for those needing financial assistance, however no one will be turned away for inability to pay.  Medicare, Medicaid, and Hillsborough Health Care Plan are accepted. Private insurance is not billed.

** NOTE **

Minors 12 years of age and over do NOT need parental consent for examination and treatment.
(A minor under the age of 12 does need parental consent).

Upon arriving at the clinic you will receive a number and registration papers. The number you receive will be your clinic number for the day. You will be called by this number for each service to preserve your confidentiality. Patients are usually called in order of arrival but there are some exceptions such as follow-up patients and patients who are called by a letter. Your medical records are confidential, only with your written consent may someone other than Health Department personnel have access to these records. The clinic personnel are specially trained in diagnosing and treating sexually transmitted diseases. To provide you the best possible service please provide accurate information throughout the process.

The clinic visit will involve several steps: registration, interview, blood draw, exam, and results/medication. Because of the comprehensive nature of this service the entire visit will take two or more hours.

Each client receives a thorough exam focused on spotting signs of STD infections. Testing is offered to all clients for HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia. Anonymous HIV testing is available if requested. We now have the urine test for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. The swab is not necessary for men any longer. Herpes tests can be done if lesions are present. Women can be tested for bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis and trichomoniasis if needed. Vaccinations for hepatitis are offered to all clients. Testing for hepatitis is offered to clients at higher risk.

The RAPID HIV test with same day results is done on most days at the clinic. This is an antibody test that is done in our lab and you get the results at the end of the visit. The other test results can be obtained by calling the test results line in two weeks.

If needed you will receive medication (or a prescription) before leaving the clinic.

We will make every effort to answer all your questions and concerns during your visit. You will receive information and counseling on ways to protect yourself from sexually transmitted diseases and free condoms are offered at the end of the visit.
