HIV/AIDS Surveillance

The data is used to plan, implement, and evaluate HIV/AIDS programs and interventions and to inform the public of the current trends in the disease. To report a case or to request statistics, please call (813) 307-8011.
Advancing HIV Prevention (AHP)
HIV Prevention Specialists provide science-based prevention interventions approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The initiative consists of four key strategies:
1. Make HIV testing a routine part of medical care.
2. Implement new models for diagnosing HIV infections outside medical settings.
3. Prevent new infections by working with persons diagnosed with HIV and their partners.
4. Further decrease perinatal HIV transmission.
Early Intervention
Early intervention activities include establishing, maintaining, and evaluating CTL sites. Staff provide HIV/AIDS 500, 501, and 501 Updates: Client-Centered Counseling, Testing, Partner Counseling, and Referral Services. Another major goal of the early intervention program is further decreasing perinatal HIV transmission.
Minority Initiatives
The Regional Minority AIDS Coordinator offers technical assistance, capacity building, and education on HIV/AIDS prevention, early intervention, and patient care issues to minority-based agencies and the community. Local collaborative efforts are posted on the state website. (www.wemakethechange.com) These initiatives support the reduction of racial and ethnic health disparities.
