Area 6 HIV/AIDS Surveillance Office
covering Hillsborough, Hernando, and Manatee counties

About Us
The primary function of the Area 6 HIV/AIDS Surveillance Office
is to collect and provide population-based data for public health
policy development and program planning and evaluation. Case report
data is collected at the local county health department level and
transferred to the Bureau of HIV/AIDS at the State Health Office
on a monthly basis. Statewide data is then transmitted to the CDC
(without patient identifiers) to compile nationwide statistics.
To ensure accurate and timely data collection, HIV/AIDS Surveillance
Staff regularly visit private health care providers and hospitals
to review medical records and complete HIV/AIDS Case Report Forms.
In addition, HIV/AIDS Surveillance Staff verify whether patients
are notified of their HIV+ results and initiate follow-up services
for patients' and their partners.
