Epidemiology: The Epidemiology program monitors and controls communicable diseases and conditions which may significantly affect the public's health. This department investigates disease outbreaks and individual cases of specific diseases. It also analyzes health-related data to detect trends or patterns. Epidemiology works closely with the Environmental Health Division, local hospitals, and sentinel physicians in the area through the Syndromic Tracking And Reporting System (STARS) program, which works to identify serious disease outbreaks and situations that may effect large segments of the population.
Lead Poisoning Prevention - Lead exposure can result in long term health consequences, and in some cases, be life-threatening. Infants and young children are most at risk because their bodies absorb lead more easily than adults. Pregnant women are also at risk.
