Biomedical Waste Generators

Environmental Health Services inspects, permits and investigates any complaints associated with facilities that generate, transport and/or treat biomedical waste in Hillsborough County or dispose of the waste improperly.

Some examples of biomedical waste July 2, 2008 nursing homes, dentists & clinics.

The Annual Permit fee for facilities that generate 25 pounds or more of waste per month, TransJuly 2, 2008n be found here.

Facilities are inspected annually for compliance with Florida Administrative Codes. "Small" generators (less than 25 pounds generated per month) are inspected June 10, 2008; from the Annual Permit fee.

How Should I Dispose of Used Needles and Syringes?

The Bay Area Sharps Disposal Program was designed as a community service to assist the residents of Hillsborough
County with a safe and environmentally sound method for disposing of used needles or "sharps".

The improper disposal of sharps threatens the safety of every member of the community, as they may be contaminated with hepatitis, HIV, and/or other serious diseases.
